PC Confidential: remove shredder icon

I recently ran across an issue where the anti-spyware applications I use did not fully remove some pieces of this PC Confidential infection. After 20 minutes of googling I have come to the conclusion that this is a common issue. Unfortunately most people suggest that you download the program, install it again and uninstall it. This to me is an unacceptable answer.

So after searching through the registry I found where the recalcitrant icon resides.

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace

Back up your registry

When you expand NameSpace you will find several entries similar to those in the screenshot below.

Click on each one until you find the one that contains shredder and then delete that entry. After a reboot that pesky shredder icon will be gone.
